Undergraduate researcher, Yumnah Siddiqui, conducted research at the Tulane National Primate Research Center in Dr. Datta’s lab this Summer. Dr. Datta's lab researches how microglial cells respond to changes in metabolism during viral infections. Specifically, Yumnah explored how lactate and SAHA (an HDAC inhibitor) affect HIV-infected and uninfected microglial cells. She was able to gain experience in lab techniques such as cell culture, seahorse metabolic assays, western blotts, immunohistochemistry, and brain tissue dissociation. We are glad to have her back in the lab and excited to see what new techniques she can teach us from her summer research. Way to go Yumnah!
